Welcome to the University of Northern Iowa's School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services!  With historic roots dating to the 1890s, our academic program has established itself as a leader in providing quality professional education experiences in the areas of health, physical education. leisure services and youth/human services administration.  Our facility is dedicated to providing students with an outstanding educational experience that is linked to the highest standards of professional service.
 
We are committed to providing progressive and contemporary curriculums, scholarship that promotes excellence in professional practice and model innovative demonstration/outreach public service projects.  Faculty members genuinely care about and are concerned with providing each and every student with a superior educational experience.  Our programs are multidimensional, emphasizing both traditional classroom experiences and experiential ones that are dedicated to integrating effectively theory with practice.  Active in professional organizations, faculty members and professional staff bring a national and international perspective to curricular activities.
 
The nationally award winning Wellness/Recreation Center houses the programs and faculty of the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services.  This bold, vibrant, visually attractive, innovative complex includes classrooms, seminar rooms, multi-purpose studios, racquetball/handball courts, instructional/lap pool, leisure pool, gymnasiums, running/walking track, fitness area, climbing wall, athletic training laboratory, biomechanics laboratory, biostatistics laboratory, exercise physiology laboratory, teaching laboratory, wellness resource laboratory, outdoor pursuit area, lounge areas, family changing area and offices.
 
Students majoring in all programs are provided with an opportunity to develop the necessary credentials for certification by various professional bodies.  Graduates from the University of Northern Iowa are highly recruited throughout the State of Iowa and across the nation.  Recent graduates are employed in school districts, community park and recreation systems, non-profit youth and voluntary organizations, human service agencies, state and federal recreation agencies, commercial enterprises offering leisure services, community non-governmental health agencies, corporate wellness centers, hospitals, women's centers, and municipal, county, state and federal agencies.
